Can you buy a pendant on its own without the chain?
The answer to this question is yes, and it depends on your circumstances. Some clients prefer to purchase a pendant with a chain. Chains can be provided in various lengths and are ready to wear with the chosen necklace design. However, some clients already own their chain and would rather avoid the further cost of a chain on the pendant price. This is especially true when it comes to diamond pendants.
Other clients prefer to source their chains elsewhere. However, there are certain considerations to take into account.
Fixed Chains for Jewellery
Some chains are already fitted to pendant designs. For example, some pendants have a chain connected to either side of the pendant setting. As a result, the chain cannot be removed. For this reason, such designs include the chain.
Other styles, including some 'slider' necklace designs feature a very small opening through which the chain passes. If the jump ring is too large, this needs to be added after the chain is passed through. One advantage is security—the pendant cannot be lost from the chain for this reason. However, for anyone purchasing the pendant without chain, they are likely to experience difficulty fitting their own chain. However, a local jobbing jeweller should be able to remove the jump ring, pass the chain through, and re-attach it.
Matching Chain and Pendant Designs
