Jewellery Repairs, Restoration & Refurbishment

At Serendipity Diamonds, we provide a very wide range of jewellery repair services. These range from simple in-house repairs, to expert services such as re-tipping and re-setting of diamonds and gemstones. Some services are carried out in-house, and other repairs are carried out by our specialist repairer based in Birmingham's historic jewellery quarter. All repair work includes ultrasonic cleaning and refinishing to delivery your item back in pristine condition.

Chain Repairs

In-house repairs, such as re-fitting jump rings, or adding new chain ends to jewellery. Most repairs take around one-week as a guide to timescale and available for Silver and Gold items..

As part of our jewellery repair work, we re-shape and repair broken rings, including re-tipping of diamond ring claws and re-building worn ring shanks and adding new settings to a variety of ring styles.

Our dedicated ring workshop carries out a variety of re-size work. Please bring in your ring to get advice and help on the possibility of a size adjustment.

Pearl Restringing

As part of our work, we offer pearl restringing. Our specialist UK workshop restores pearl necklaces, with additional services, to add new clasps, and extend necklace sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few of the common questions we are asked about jewellery repairs.

Do you repair chains?

Some chains can be repaired. In contrast, other styles cannot be repaired. We are often unable to repair broken snake chains and very fine trace chains owing to the fragility of of the links. Please bring your chain in to us to get advice on the possibility of providing a repair.

What about broken catches?

We provide a replacement service for broken catches. In addition we can provide larger trigger catches making necklaces easier to fit. We are unable to repair most catches, but will be happy to advise on the cost of a replacement catch in either Silver or Gold.

What types of ring repairs do you offer?

Ring repairs vary enormously. Some of the repairs we carry out include reshaping distorted rings, adding thicker sections to worn bands, re-tipping broken claws and laser repairing breaks in settings and shanks.

Can you add a new catch to my necklace?

Yes we can. We add new catches for necklaces in Gold and Silver. In addition, we can replace existing catches with larger types, or we can source magnetic clasps for anyone having difficulty with existing catches.

How much do you charge for repairs?

Prices vary enormously depending on the work required. We recommend bringing your item to us. We will discuss your requirements, advise and quote on any work required. Some quotes take around one week to organise if we send away to our UK workshops. Once approved, a repair can take around 2 weeks to complete.

How long do repairs take?

Repairs carried out in our Ryde workshop on the Isle of Wight, take around 1 week to complete. Repairs sent away to our specialists UK mainland workshops can take around 2-3 weeks to complete, with one week to organise the initial quote for work to be carried out.

What happens to unrepairable items?

If your jewellery cannot be repaired, we can provide guidance and suggestions. These range from a new, replicated jewellery design, to re-using existing metal and gemstones to create a new item of jewellery.

Should I bring my jewellery with me when I visit?

Without seeing your jewellery, we are unable to offer any specific guidance or quotes. Please ensure you have your item with you when you visit us in Ryde.
