9ct Gold Vintage Etruscan Long Guard Chain

This rare find is an Antique long-guard chain made in 9ct Gold, measuring an incredible 56 inches. Likely to be Victorian, the chain is substantially long, beautifully coloured with an aged, rosy patina, characteristic of vintage gold jewellery designs. 

The chain measures an incredible 56 inches excluding the picture frame. 

Other names refer to this style as a muff chain, often worn in the Victorian period, asymmetrically with a photograph in the frame. 

The chain weight 35.4 grams in total and features sections of filigree beads consistent with the Etruscan Revival period of jewellery design, with round and spindle-shaped filigree sections on a belcher-style chain design.

In addition, the design includes an oval gold picture frame with raised detail measuring 3cm x 2.5cm wide. The frame has no glass, but screws into the fitting. Once removed, the open frame can be opened carefully to insert a photograph and would have been originally fitted with glass plates.
