Introducing the Sea Glass Collectors Pouch
The sea glass pouch is an essential item of kit for the sea glass hunter. After many years of sea glass hunting, I finally found the perfect place to collect and keep sea glass before delivering it to the jewellery bench.
Don't put sea in your pocket
In the early years of beachcombing, the occasional find of a piece of sea glass ended up placed into a pocket. Most pieces of glass are coated with beach sand, which is difficult to remove and can also go into the pocket. A momentary lapse of concentration, putting a phone into the same pocket, results in screen damage. While walking with my dog, the other issue was removing items from my pocket and losing prized pieces I found on my walks.
From time to time, I moved pockets of sea glass into my rucksack, only to lose it in the multitude of pockets. At the same time, the issue persisted with sand deposited into pockets into which I occasionally flung my phone.
As a regular morning dog walker/sea glass hunter, I carry a very useful dog treat pouch with me, from which I reward Noodle for working on recall, which he has been lacking.
If you're like me and use two pouches—one for sea glass and one for dog treats, just make sure you don't treat the dog with sea glass! The range of colours available certainly helps...
Trialling the sea glass pouch
As a trial, I decided to order another treat pouch, in a beautiful Turquoise green (similar to some of the bright sea glass colours), which arrived in a larger size.
The pouch features an easy-to-open design, like purses, where you squeeze to open them. At the same time, the pouch's reverse features a handy carabiner for attaching to a belt loop.
After using this for several months, it has become an essential piece of sea glass hunting kit. I no longer pollute my pockets with sand and grit, and I drop the pouch into my work bag to transport my finds to the workshop where I can shape and transform them into jewellery.

Other useful items of kit for the sea glass hunter
While we are discussing the sea glass kit, it might be worth listing a few other essential items recommended. Since most of our hunting takes place on wild beaches, a sturdy pair of waterproof hiking boots is essential. Ankle support protects against sprains while scrambling over beach rocks.
Another handy item is a baseball cap to shield eyes from the sun. The sun is advantageous since it often helps identify glass owing to the halo effect. However, the brightness of the sun can make beachcombing difficult.
Finally, a camera or smartphone helps with capturing finds. This provides useful content for blogging and social media, especially for jewellery makers.
