Fay's Sunshine Yellow Sapphire Ring

As part of her bespoke jewellery commission, our client, Fay, approached the Serendipity to help her transform an amazing gemstone into a wearable item of jewellery. More specifically, a dress ring.

Fay's Sunshine Yellow Sapphire

The incredible yellow sapphire measured around 10mm in diameter with an exceptional clarity. But, most importantly, the sapphire boasted an incredible sunshine yellow colour. In fact, on the main Serendipity website, we referred to her bespoke ring as the Sunburst sapphire ring.

The Bespoke Yellow Sapphire Ring

As part of our bespoke work, we provide advice and guidance along information on the bespoke design process. We suggested either 18ct Yellow Gold, or 950 Platinum for the setting. Fay chose Platinum, a luxurious, natural white metal, approximately one-third denser than Platinum and perfect for long-term wear and value.

From Jewellery Concept to Creation

The entire process took around 6 weeks. During this time, we talk, exchange emails and create realistic CAD designs, rendered to look like the final ring. This provides clients with a clear represenation of how the final ring will look.

What are Yellow Sapphires?

Sapphires exist in a variety of colours, derived from the mineral Corundum. Colours include pinks, blues, greens, black, yellow, orange and red. Red Sapphire are otherwise known as Rubies. Within each colour, many hues exist with an incredible variety for gemstone connoisseurs.

What Makes a Yellow Sapphire Yellow?

The reason for the yellow colour in a sapphire is due to the presence of iron. Higher levels of iron result in increased colour saturation. Another cause of the colour in yellow sapphires can occur as a result of natural radiation or artificial irradiation. For this reason, synethetic yellow sapphires provide a cost effective alternative to natural yellow coloured gems.
